The Family Promise – Interfaith Hospitality Network (FP-IHN) of Gloucester County Network – Building Communities / Strengthening Lives!

FP-IHN opened its doors on December 18, 2005. The first homeless family, or “guests”, entered the program on December 19, 2005.

The journey to open Family Promise of Gloucester County began long before December 2005.  In 2002, a group of concerned community members formed the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Gloucester County, and later changed the name to Family Promise – IHN.  With guidance from the National Family Promise, this group worked hard to raise the initial operating funds for the network to open and also raised awareness of homelessness in Gloucester County.   Family Promise of Gloucester County is one of currently 158 networks operating nationwide.

Because of the dedication of the volunteers, Family Promise will only continue to grow and provide homeless families with a chance to regain stability. The program has been steadily growing and other county-wide community services/agencies are partnering with us to give homeless children and their families a hand up.

Since the beginning of this year, over 3,400 meals were made available to our guests in the program.  In just one month this year, FP-IHN served over 700 meals, assisted 5 families, welcomed 3 new congregations to the program, and trained close to 100 new volunteers.

We have together raised funds for FP-IHN through individual donations, our annual basket auction, and for the first time this year, a golf outing.  Additional events are planned, so look for those details.

Whether you prepare a hot meal, drive the network’s van, share a few hours of fellowship and hospitality, read to a child, or provide a financial contribution, you can make a difference in the lives of homeless children and their families right here in Gloucester County.   We welcome the opportunity to hear from you!
